Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise turns deadly: twelve confirmed dead

Reports are emerging that a devastating stampede during a military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Ghana has resulted in twelve fatalities and numerous injuries.

Initially, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) reported six deaths in a press release following the tragic incident that unfolded on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Around 6:20 a.m., a large crowd of applicants breached security protocols and forced their way into the stadium before the official screening process had begun.

As the situation unfolded, it became clear that many others had also sustained injuries. Those hurt are currently receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital. In response, the GAF emphasized that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilize affected individuals.

In their press statement, GAF expressed their deepest condolences to the families of those lost and are in the process of notifying them about this tragedy. Additionally, they wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
