Malawi ministry confirms nationals involved in fatal Limpopo bus accident

A tragic road accident in Limpopo Province, South Africa, on Sunday night has left at least 43 dead, including 22 Malawians, on a bus that was carrying over 90 passengers. The vehicle was traveling from South Africa to Malawi via Zimbabwe.

The Malawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Tuesday that 14 Malawians have been identified, while eight remain missing.

Six of those identified were treated as out-patients, and eight are still hospitalized.

The crash occurred on a mountainous section of the N1 Highway.

South African authorities are conducting forensic identifications, but complications have arisen due to missing IDs or passports for some passengers.

This incident underscores the dangers of long-distance travel in the region, and investigations into the crash are ongoing.
