Omar’s comments on Somalia fuel mockery from Trump and White House

The White House recently appeared to mock Rep. Ilhan Omar following her comments about not fearing deportation or losing her citizenship.

A photo of former President Trump, taken during a 2024 campaign stop in Pennsylvania, was shared on X, showing him waving from a McDonald’s drive-thru window.

This post came after Omar stated during an interview that she was unconcerned about the possibility of being deported.

In the interview on The Dean Obeidallah Show, Omar said, “I have no worry, I don’t know how they’d take away my citizenship and like deport me.” She emphasized her personal growth since fleeing Somalia as a child and expressed confidence in her status as a U.S. citizen.

Trump has a history of targeting Omar, previously suggesting she should return to Somalia. Earlier this month, he shared a video of her speaking Somali on Truth Social, adding, “She should go back!” Omar responded to his statements by labeling Trump as a “lying buffoon” and disputed his claims about Somalia’s leadership.

Born in Somalia, Omar and her family escaped civil war in 1991, spending time in a Kenyan refugee camp before resettling in the U.S. in 1995.

She became a U.S. citizen in 2000 and made history in 2018 as one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress. The ongoing feud between Trump and Omar traces back to his first term, where he infamously told her and fellow members of “The Squad” to “go back” to their countries, prompting Omar to accuse him of stoking white nationalism.
