Texas officer caught selling fried chicken wings to inmates

In Travis County, Texas, US, scandal erupted involving Amos Nyanway, a 25-year-old corrections officer. Recently hired in June 2023, Nyanway was arrested after allegedly selling fried chicken wings from Wingstop to an inmate in exchange for money.

The case surfaced on August 21 during an unrelated investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Security Threat Intelligence Unit. Nyanway was placed on administrative duty while an internal inquiry was conducted.

On October 14, he was fired and subsequently booked into the Travis County Jail, facing a Class B misdemeanor charge for introducing contraband.

Sheriff Sally Hernandez expressed disappointment in Nyanway’s actions, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to security standards. In Texas, a Class B misdemeanor can lead to up to six months in jail or a fine of up to $2,000.
