Burkina Faso's President Traore shuts down corrupt Electoral Commission in historic reform
In a decisive move against corruption, President Ibrahim Traore has dissolved the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI), declaring it a compromised institution that has failed the people for years, local news media reported on Thursday.
Traore criticized CENI for its role in electoral misconduct, asserting that it has become a breeding ground for corruption and manipulation. He stated that no credible elections have emerged from the institution recently, and the citizens of Burkina Faso deserve better.
He has ordered the Minister of Territorial Administration to create a new electoral body that embodies transparency and integrity. This reform represents a complete overhaul of the existing system.
Traore emphasized that effective leadership requires dismantling broken systems, stating, “The only way to build forward is to destroy the rot first.”
With this action, Burkina Faso is poised for a democratic presidential election where citizens can choose their leaders without interference. Traore’s strong stance indicates that he is demanding change, and history is watching.
