In the wake of protests, Diamond Platnumz deletes campaign posts for Suluhu

Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz has deleted all his social media posts supporting President Suluhu Hassan following the contentious general elections on October 29.

Suluhu, representing the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), had received endorsements from several Bongo music stars, including Diamond, Ali Kiba, Rayvanny, and Zuchu.

However, the elections were marred by controversy as protests erupted when top opposition candidates were barred from running.

In response to the unrest, the government imposed curfews, restricted internet access, and deployed military forces. The main opposition leader, Tundu Lissu, remains imprisoned on disputed treason charges, while Luhaga Mpina, the second-largest opposition candidate, was disqualified on legal technicalities.

Critics argue that the ruling party staged a coronation rather than conducting a legitimate election.

As public outrage grew, many celebrities who endorsed Suluhu faced threats, with some reporting attacks on their businesses. Diamond, who had previously praised Suluhu as a gentle, hardworking leader in his last Instagram post, removed all his supportive content.

His actions reflect the broader discontent among Tanzanians seeking accountability and change in the wake of a tumultuous electoral process.
