Trump issues ultimatum to Hamas over Gaza ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Hamas would be given an opportunity to honor the Gaza truce agreement with Israel, however, he cautioned that the group would be "eradicated" if it fails to comply.

“We made a deal with Hamas that they are to behave,” Trump stated at the White House while hosting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

He emphasized that if Hamas does not adhere to the agreement, “they will be eradicated, and they know that.”

These remarks followed meetings between U.S. envoys and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amid escalating tensions that threaten the fragile ceasefire.

Trump assured that American forces would not engage against Hamas, indicating that numerous countries were prepared to join international stabilization efforts in Gaza.

He also noted that Israel could act promptly if necessary but maintained a cautious stance, expressing hope for reduced violence.

Trump asserted that Hamas is now considerably weaker, particularly as Iran is less likely to support the group following U.S. and Israeli actions earlier this year.
